I have been in business as a freelance proofreader since 2009 and have been involved in poofreading a number of academic and business texts for authors (academics and lawyers) for whom English is not their first language. Topics have included, amongst others, European Patent Law, Hungarian history of the 13th century, integrating professional work amd life, the environmental management of Italian drinking water, an annual report for an educational establishment and design principles for supporting a web based learning environment.

Prior to starting my own business I worked for 25 years in the accountancy profession specialising in tax. A significant amount of my work involved proofreading internal documents and client facing material much of which was based on tax legislation. In this work I acquired many of the necessary skills for proofreading, eg attention to detail, efficiency, flexibility, thoroughness and precision.

I am passionate about creating a good impression. The written word may be the only contact between two people and so it needs to be accurate and well presented. Having a document proofread can enhance its impact. Proofreading requires method, creativity and focus and I bring these skills to any job that I undertake. My approach is organised, logical and forward thinking. I am self motivated with the determination to see a job through to its conclusion. I work well in a team as both team leader and worker and have worked closely with all levels of staff from the most junior to top ranking individuals.

I am an Associate Member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders and obtained a pass with merit in the Publishing Training Centre’s Basic Proofreading Course. I have a BA in Accounting and Financial Management and am a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
